Originally from Morehead city, Katherine relocated to Raleigh to attend Saint Mary’s high school. During this time she fell in love with the Raleigh area and made the decision to attend NCSU, later earning a Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology and a Minor in Health, Medicine, and Human Rights from N.C. State. During those years, she traveled to Ethiopia thanks to Cherokee Gives Back and volunteered in HIV-positive orphanages and medical clinics. She has also traveled to Haiti where she volunteered for Paul Farmer’s Partners In Health Philosophy and Hospital in Cange. During her time abroad, she developed a love and respect for different cultures and foods. It was this love of worldly cuisines that first drew Katherine to bu•ku. While in still in college, she started working at bu•ku in 2010 as a hostess before eventually making her way through every single Front of House position until her promotion to Events Coordinator in 2015.
